The Bromley and Chislehurst NCT branch brought the current campaign to my attention and it's something I feel the PRUH needs - a birthing centre located inside the PRUH would be perfect for so many Bromley mums to be. A birthing centre allows a more relaxed home from home environment, more choices and lower medical intervention whilst still benefiting from the excellent medical expertise available at the PRUH.
I gave birth to my gorgeous Son almost a year ago at the PRUH - I had wanted a home birth but because I have a long term medical history ( I have just the one kidney!) I had been advised to have a hospital birth ( and ended up really needing one too!) for me it was catch 22 - because of my history, I'm actually terrified of hospitals! A birthing centre would have been most welcomed by me!
Here is the NCT Campaign - please show your support - it's only a quick email :-)
We have heard that there is a danger that PRUH (Farnborough hospital) will not get a birth centre as was originally discussed in the changes to maternity provision in the area. This means women will not get a real choice over place of birth; apparently it's because they have not received enough requests/emails from people....
We need to get as many people as possible to email Donna Ockenden -
Donna@nhs.net & 'cc' in Jenny Selway - jenny.Selway@bromleypct.nhs.uk, if we don't ask we won't get.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - GIVE JUST A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME TO SEND THIS EMAIL. HELP BROMLEY WOMEN HAVE A CHOICE IN WHERE THEY GIVE BIRTH.
Below is an email, to give you some ideas;
Dear Donna and Jenny,
I am passionate about women having a choice in where they give birth and think women should be able to choose to between a hospital birth or home birth.
For many women, especially first time mums-to-be, they want to have
an intervention free birth and like the idea of a Homebirth but want to be close by the hospital just in case.
Please can women have the option of a birth centre at the PRUH? This would give women real choice.
MayDay Hospital in Croydon and Lewisham hospital have birth centres - why can't people in Bromley have access to this too?
Outcomes for mums and babies who have had straight-forward births are great, and give them a positive start for the journey into those important early days. In order for women to have the best possible start they need choice.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Emma in Bromley xx
Thank you for advertising this widely on your site. I'm passionate about all expectant parents having a choice too, and a birth centre is a lovely 'half way house' between a hospital and a home birth.
ReplyDeleteI've sent my email, hope we can encourage others too...
best wishes
Carol
Well it obviously paid off as I gave birth there a year ago and had an amazing water birth! I'm also an NCT person but Orpington branch :-)
